Excursion – Discover the Island of Brač

Friday 17 April

8:40 – Gather at Split ferry port.

9:00 – 9:50 – Ferry ride to the nearby island of Brač.

9:50 – 10:10 – Bus drive to village Splitska.

10:10 – 10:30 – Our journey to the island’s archaeological sites begins in the coastal village of Splitska, where we will see the ancient relief of Heracles engraved in the cliff, the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and the Cerinic family castle, a strong fortified building dating from 1577.

10:30 – 10:40 – Bus drive to the oldest settlement on the island, Škrip, which evokes history and island life over a millennium.

10:40 – 11:25 – Visiting Škrip, one of the most significant sights in Croatia, with its prehistoric town walls, numerous archaeological sites, sarcophagi, reliefs, and medieval graves. We will also visit the Museum of the Island of Brač and the Olive Oil Museum, where you will learn about the traditional process of olive oil production on the island. The visit ends with a tasting of local jams, cheeses, olives, olive oil and wine.

11:25 – 11:40 – The bus drive continues along the northern shore to the town of Postira.

11:40 – 12:10 – In Postira, we will visit the Church of Saint John the Baptist from the16th century and the archaeological site of Mirje with its remains of a late antique villa.

12:10 – 12:20 – The bus drive continues further east, to Lovrecina.

12:20 – 12:40 – Visiting Lovrecina, a unique sandy beach renowned for its remains of the early Christian basilica of St. Lawrence.

12:40 – 12:55 – Drive by bus to Pucisca, a town famous for its centuries-old tradition of masonry.

12:55 – 14:00 – Visit to Pucisca. We will visit the stonemason school, the baroque church of the patron saint St Jerome, the renaissance Church of our Lady of Batak, the medieval church of St Georg, and the recently reconstructed early Christian Church of St Stephen.

Short break – ideal for a walk and a cup of coffee.

14:00 – 14:40 – We continue the journey towards the highest peak of the island of Brač, Vidova gora. It is one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the Adriatic coast, and offers wonderful views of the Brac beaches and other nearby islands.

14:40 – 14:50 – Enjoying view and having photo opportunity at Vidova Gora.

14:50 – 15:05 – Continuing the drive to a well-known local restaurant, Kopacina.

15:05 – 16:35 – A 2-course lunch, with local dishes.

16:35 – 16:50 – Drive back to Supetar, to catch the ferry for Split

16:50 – 18:00 – Enjoying free time in Supetar.

18:00 – 18:50 – Ferry ride back to Split.
